I have always been fascinated by the design of the human body and the possible mystical forces behind its inner workings. I am interested in what drives unconscious muscle movements, reflexes, and body functions. I am also captivated by this unconscious X factor that is behind life, and whether or not the mystical / spiritual have anything to do with it. I have been using existing body imagery that spans from DNA to cells to organs as a springboard to create new compositions and explore my conceptual ideas.
My personal experiences with motherhood have drawn me further into the wonder of the internal systems that produce and sustain life. My work explores the "issues and tissues" of womankind, her biological functions and the significance of these processes on gender and societal roles.
Painting and drawing are what I am using currently to investigate my anatomical and biological imagery. In the future I see these themes as manifesting themselves in sculptural mediums. In this process of my investigating my subject matter, my research continually uncovers deeper layers and ideas that lead to new work.
